Fundraising in memory of Baby FelicityMy Story
We are raising money for Arc as this charity has helped me very much over the weeks. I gave birth to my stillborn baby on Saturday 8th September at 11:35am at 14 weeks 2 days. We named her Felicity Phoebe Butler .
I have shared my story of loss in hope thats this helps other parents feel that they are not alone in dealing with antenatal screening results and choices and the loss of a baby following this.
We found out we were pregnant very early on in June and were over the moon! We had a early dating scan and saw the heartbeat for the first time.
On our 12 week scan we saw our baby kicking and waving her arms and at this point we were assured everything looked perfect. I opted to have a full screening and went away from the hospital that day very happy.
6 days later I had call from the hospital to tell me that my bloodwork had came back and I was very high risk. We went in to see the midwife to discuss the results further and to my horror my baby was very high risk for downs and edwards syndrome.
I agreed to have a CVS test performed and had an appointment at Oxford 2 days later. We anxiously waited for the results over what felt like the longest weekend of our lives.
The following Tuesday we recieved a call to tell us our baby had been diagnosed with Triploidy sydrome. Our baby had 3 of each chromosome. Triploidy is a fatal chromosonal abnormality which is incompatiable with life, babies diagnosed with this very rarely make it full term. In cases when babies have survived a live birth, pallitive care is given straight away. Triploidy is a very rare abnormality and only occurs in 1-3% of pregnancies.
Felicity was born sleeping and looked perfect. We are heartbroken that she will never get to experience the love we would have given to her nor were our dreams of being parents and raising her fulfilled. We do know however that she is no longer suffering.
We understand how hard it is for parents awaiting antenatal screening results and in some cases the devastating news that follows. Arc do a fantastic job at supporting parents with their choices following results.
Felicity will forever be in our hearts.
We are determined to raise as much as we can to help support other families.
